Diabetes Education Program

With registered nurses and dietitians on staff, the program supports people living with prediabetes or diabetes. This includes 1-on-1 or group consultation on monitoring blood sugar levels, medications, healthy eating, exercise and other lifestyle choices.

SuzyMari designs and executes an exercise regimen for the class and clients. Prior to registering a client, Suzy assesses the physical condition and Physical Activity Readiness (PAR-Q) questionnaire with each participant upon starting a class. Suzy leads warm-up activities with stretches, and leads the exercise program with dance, strength training, yoga and cardio aerobics. SuzyMari also assists with offering health tips to individuals who are having difficulty with their physical health. In addition to her physical activity duties, Suzy also performs administrative work including registering new clients, monitoring client’s progress, body analysis assessments, attendance, motivation, client feedback & follow up, client retention (tokens, snacks), developing modified routine to accommodate all abilities and supervises the exercise room.

Mentorship & Coaching

SuzyMari provides mentorship to young girls & boys on maintaining good relationships, developing healthy lifestyle habits, making healthier food choices and physical activities.

  • Designs, promotes and implements specialized fitness classes within the guidelines of a recognized specialty fitness area (Yoga, Dance, Cardio Aerobics, strengthening) certifying organization

  • Plans, organizes and instructs safe and enjoyable group specialty fitness classes for all ages and abilities.

  • Sets-up and takes-down all necessary equipment for the class.

Active Living

SuzyMari designs, promotes and implements specialized fitness classes (including Zumba, Hip Hop Caribbean Dance) within the guidelines of a recognized fitness certifying organization.

  • Plans organizes and instructs safe and enjoyable group specialty fitness classes for all ages and abilities

  • Monitors and maintains attendance, fitness passes and memberships

  • Attends and participates in meetings and training sessions

  • Monitors and reports any incidents/accidents and or areas of concern to facility supervisor.

  • SuzyMari also aids participants with the use of machines and workout equipment, choreographs dance routines and preforms recreational duties as required.

Education & Peer-Management in Community Programs

SuzyMari’s role in Toronto Public Health is to lead and demonstrate the fundamentals of group fitness classes. She plans exercise programs that execute motivational techniques to music selection and delivers unforgettable fitness classes that suits all abilities.

SuzyMari works alongside Toronto Public Health’s Nurses, Dieticians and Translators to educate marginalized communities on healthy lifestyle. These services can be seen through meal preparation workshops, nutritional education based on cultural diversities, developing peer leaders to deliver workshops in their own communities, create exercise programs geared towards specific communities such as cultural dance with familiar music and modified exercise for all abilities.

SuzyMari communicates effectively and collaboratively through the help of a translator to participants within the marginalized communities in a friendly and fun manner.

Women’s Health Fitness Specialist & Coach

SuzyMari demonstrates a safe and efficient way to exercise by leading fitness classes and health & safety (fall prevention) workshops. She delivers women’s-focused programs on healthy eating habits, lifestyle changes, weight management, finding your motivation, nutritional coaching, building self-esteem, community building and promoting consistency & women empowerment through healthy lifestyle.

With registered nurses and dietitians on staff, the program supports people living with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes with 1-on-1 or group consultation on monitoring blood sugar levels, medications, healthy eating, exercise, and other lifestyle choices .

SuzyMari’s role with organization is to always maintain a positive mental outlook, remain physically fit, and work with individuals with all abilities. Her role is to lead exercise classes, demonstrate workouts, ensure health and safety (fall preventions) and monitor blood sugar levels (safe high/low blood sugar). Participants are able to perform safely and to the best of their abilities. Additionally as interacting with clients is a major component of the job, SuzyMari possesses the ability to demonstrate effectively and with friendly communication skills.

Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment

Empowerment Camp & Leadership Workshop with Movements - After School Program 2021

SuzyMari has partnered with the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment, exclusively for young women living in the South Etobicoke Region! Not only are these programs empowering for young girls, but they will also provide useful life skills that will give them opportunities in the future in a rewarding manner. These skills include entrepreneurship, clear mindsets, and healthy lifestyle changes which will strengthen their personal relationships moving forward. This collaboration between SuzyMari and the Centre is a weekly spring/summer program where leadership skills, fitness and health are introduced through fun dance and movement activities. This program is for girls and young women ages 7-17 years old.
